PFASs are a group of synthetic organofluorine chemical compounds used in the production of fluoropolymer coatings and products such as furniture, adhesives, personal care products, food packaging, mobile phone screens, etc. Many PFASs pose health and environmental concerns because they are classified as persistent organic pollutants. The long-chain PFASs are due to higher bioaccumulative potential frequently detected in living organisms. This application shows a robust method of extraction and determination of the PFAS compounds in fish biota samples, which can be a relevant exposure pathway for humans.

Bisphenols by online SPE and LC-MS/MS (APK #602)

Based on the toxicity of bisphenols to human health and aquatic ecosystem, BPA and its analogues should be strictly controlled in different environmental matrices at low concentrations. The sample preparation step is time-consuming and critical for analytical determination of BPs due to complex analytes pre-concentrating. Pesticides in environmental matrices (APK #629)

This application describes a quick and robust LC-MS/MS method for simultaneous analysis of residual concentrations of pesticides in water matrices. The method provides a good separation and quantitative determination of pesticides and their isomers. Micro-Solid-Phase-Extraction (MSPE) has been used for sample clean-up.

The number of pesticides is continuously growing as new active substances are being developed. Prepurification of adipokinetic hormones (APK #472)

Adipokinetic hormones (AKHs) are insect anti-stress hormones that maintain the biochemical and physiological homeostasis of the insect body (Kodrík, 2008). AKHs are octa, nona- or decapeptides with both termini blocked: the N-terminus by a pyroglutamate residue and the C-terminus by an amide. Typically, a specific antibody and ELISA method are used for their quantification in the insect central nervous system and haemolymph. For the latter, prior to executing the ELISA test, several pre-purification steps are required; they also involve a solid phase extraction cartridge.
In the test, the AKH from the firebug Pyrrhocoris apterus known as Pyrap-AKH was employed. Its structure is: pGlu-Leu-Asn-Phe-Thr-Pro-Asn-Trp-NH2 (Kodrík et al., 2000).
